Could you introduce yourself?

We are Oumou Khairy and Carole Tankeu, a complementary duo. We met in Nairobi (Kenya) two years ago and decided to start on a great adventure six months ago.

Carole Tankeu, Cameroonian, married and mother of 3 children, I live in Nairobi. I am a scientific training (environmentalist), and I am passionate about African contemporary art. Having grown up and lived in several African countries (Cameroon, Gabon, Ethiopia and Morocco), over time, I cultivated the taste of travel in general but in Africa in particular.

Oumou Khairy Tall, Senegalese having grown up in France, I am currently living in Nairobi. I am an interior decorator graduated from MMI Déco school in Paris. I created my agency in 2013 in Dakar (Senegal) and offers services to individuals and companies.

Founder of Fabiwa decoration and passionate about interior architecture, craftsmanship and design, it was natural to me to turn to crafts. It is a logical outcome of my career and my desires.

From the design of your project until the end of the renovation and decoration work, you are given precise commitments.

With a taste for elegant and contemporary and elegant, Fabiwa décor aims at creating interiors that reflect the unique character of its occupants.

What does “Fabiwa decoration” mean?

Fabiwa is the association of the first names of our children, our everyday inspiration.

I had places in Dakar, but since I have moved to Nairobi, I work from home where I receive my clients.

Tell us about the African Box?

Africa, the cradle of humanity, represents a land of inspiration and creativity, cultural richness and artistic diversity.

Our concept is an invitation to travel through African crafts.

The concept of the Box is born from the combination of 3 ideas: service, travel and African craftsmanship.

The African. Box by Fabiwa is a journey through Africa through its flavors, textures, colors, elegance. In short, it is a unique showcase of African know-how, a concentrate of Afro-chic creativity.

With our Boxes, you will make a stopover in different African countries through its crafts.

How are the artists / designers selected? and where?

We select handcrafts, contemporary creations of hand-crafted pieces that highlight both traditional craftsmanship and creativity.

In addition, we identify artisans, unusual creators with whom we work to create our own objects or we revisit certain pieces, giving them a more contemporary touch.

We work with women as far as possible because our priority is on the one hand, highlighting the work of women artisans, and on the other hand the collaboration between women from diverse horizons.

Our Box reflects this new Africa, which is modern, innovative and trendy.

We select our products from about 15 countries on the African continent, from Swaziland, Mali, through Morocco, Cameroon, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Uganda and Senegal.
